Live Green at Heart | Knoxville, TN | An East TN Guide to Greener Living

This Company supplied many jobs for many years. It also messed up one of the most beautiful Ecosystems there are! All these years of Photography-who knew I was helping to poison what I was photographing? Another example of Corporate irresponsibilty. Having visions of Exxon Valdez here......just keep throwing money at it, it might 'go away'.
Live Green at Heart Knoxville, TN An East TN Guide to Greener Living: "Tenn. opens settlement talks to chemical company
The Associated Press Updated: 2/28/2010 5:32:08 PM Posted: 2/28/2010 1:20:46 PM
Tennessee's top environmental officials are offering Eastman Chemical Co. a role in finalizing the punishment of the company for water quality violations in 2008 and 2009.
The move comes as the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation waits on the federal Environmental Protection Agency to approve a draft enforcement order.
The Johnson City Press reports that instead of a unilateral 'Director's Order' or 'Commissioner's Order' from TDEC, if Eastman Chemical accepts the offer could respond to a 'Consent Order.'
The department's spokeswoman, Meg Lockhart, said the change in approach involved the potential time and legal fees costs of an appeals process, which won't happen if an agreed order is reached.
If Eastman Chemical rejects the offer, the company then has 30 days to appeal an enforcement order."

For those of you with some time indoors, here's MY recommended read Books:

Wandering About Nature Today-Here are 2 great books I recommend for those who like to read, or may be spending more time than usual indoors due to weather!

1. ORCA The Whale Called Killer, By Erich Holt
This is an insightful study of Orcas and their complex social system. The author becomes very familiar with the Pods as they return every year, and knows each individual, their social standing and their personalities. It is one of the unique long term studies that shines a light on these misunderstood animals. The study takes place near Vancover-in the Johnstone Strait and surrounding area. Also contains statistical information.

2.  Winter World, The Ingenuity of Animal Survival, By Bernd Heinrich
A great indepth study of how some animals survive most of the winter literally barely clinging to a thread, while others under the same conditions do not make it. The study takes place in the New England region where winter is both unrelenting, and unforgiving.
